What is CAPS?

CAPS is The Center for Academic Planning and Support. It is a one stop shop for students who need help with academic planning, advisement, tutoring, instructional services and career/job search counseling.

CAPS has an "open lab" that is equipped with computer workstations. The workstations are available to students to work on papers and projects. Computer assisted learning tools such as PLATO, Statdisk, and Nursing software are available at all stations.

Proctors are on call to help students with homework assignments and special projects. Students are encouraged to visit CAPS during their first week of classes to familiarize themselves with the CAPS services and staff.

CAPS also offers different assessment testing including Accuplacer and Choices. The goal of testing is to identify areas of strength and weakness so that appropriate course placements can be made.

CLEP exams (College Level Examination Program) are also offered. CLEP helps students earn credit for the college-level learning they have acquired. CLEP provides individuals with the opportunity to demonstrate their college-level learning by taking exams that assess the knowledge and skills taught in college courses.

All services are available to both student and community members. There is no charge to students enrolled in credit-bearing courses. Community members may access the Center on a fee-per-service basis.

CAPS is located in Room 222.
